Cougar Night !!

It’s been a while, I know… But it’s summer in Quebec City and it’s a lot of fun!! So, I’m busy drinking whisky and attending cool events like the Quebec Summer Festival (Festival d'été de Québec #FEQ). Last week, I saw Def Leppard performing and the night inspired me for this week’s post on Miss Dram.  I loved Rock Bands like Def Leppard in my early teenage years and saturday night, I was not the only one ! When I looked around me,  I saw plenty of cougar women in their 40’s. They were all dolled up. I thought it was funny...but then - soon enough -  it will be me, grggrgg-miaw. While listening to Love Bites, I was wondering if all the cougars will go hunting after the show...

And now, you are probably saying: “how on earth is this related to whisky?” Well, dear fans, I’m talking age statement here. With Macallan replacing its 10, 12 and 15 years old with no-age statement single malts, it's very related and I have to disagree about it like I disagree to add ice in my whisky. I don’t think this will lead to a “new age/new way” of producing whisky. I think connoisseurs won’t buy that. I’m not saying I’m a true believer in years-on-the-bottle-or-I-quit-drinking kind of girl, but for a Master Blender, age statement is the genesis of its work, isn’t? I also feel this is a very marketing move. Like Minou said: “Whisky at 250$ its not bold, its pretentious.” Voilà ! That said, how about tasting a cougar type of whisky now? Like, late 40's ?

Adelphi - Lochside 46 YO, 52,3% (grain and malt whisky, 1965) : Super dark color, I haven’t seen that too often. It looks like a very bad maple syrup. Nose: I smell prune juice. Caramel and clove. Taste: It’s not soft, it’s very folk. Fruity enough. The aftertaste is intense, long and fizzy raisin and I like the second sip better. Chocolate and rice pudding. 84

Adelphi - Lochside 47 YO, 54,6 % (single blend, 1964): Smell a little of hay, with flowers. Maybe lavender, very discreetly. A bit soapy and vanilla. Taste: very good! Surprise - what is this fun cherry candy taste? It goes down very well. Chocolate éclair, filled with custard. Superb finale. In mouth, it is enhanced at the right spot. Ginger, pepper vanilla and toffee. 88

The Adelphi Distillery is an independent Scottish bottler. The distillery was closed (and demolished) from 1968 to 1993. It bottles around 50 casks a year and it continues to bottle straight from the casks without color or chill filtration. The Lochside Distillery is closed since 1992.
